“Team Sophie”, initiated by a group of people* in the Sunningdale / Ascot area in 2009, was designed to help provide financing for British para-equestrian Sophie Christiansen when it became evident that her Beijing horse, Lambrusco III, would be too elderly to make a bid for London 2012.
This fund was used to purchase 2012 Paralympic and 2013 European triple gold-medal-winner Janeiro 6, or “Rio”. Although Rio is still fit and will hopefully take Sophie through the 2014 World Championships in Normandy, he is in the same situation as Lambrusco and a replacment will soon be necessary.
The original hope was that, in the long-term, sufficient funds would remain to create a legacy available to encourage promising, up-coming para-equestrians, as well as possibly to keep Sophie’s Paralympic horses in retirement.
The fund is currently managed by the charitable arm of Ascot Lawyers. To find out more, or to make a donation, please contact Alan Carr MBE, Trustee, Ascot Lawyers Foundation at firstname.lastname@example.org Tel: 07770 800511
